A Parade of Love

April 29, 2020

As they say at Disney, “A dream is a wish your heart makes.” Well, Saturday April 25th, 2020 was a dream. The sun peaked out from behind the clouds with warm radiance on our faces. And the lights, cameras and drones were ready to go. Beautifully decorated cakes, a Disney-filled treasure chest and hand-painted Adirondack chairs were waiting for the family. The Disney magic was in State College. And the parade of love for the Ebert-Tyworth family was about to begin. Hearts racing with anticipation. Also overflowing with excitement and joy!

Lori was diagnosed about a year ago with an aggressive, inoperable brain tumor.

However, it neither holds her back nor slows her down. She is accomplished in her career at Penn State University, she is an amazing mom to Katie and Andrew (two unbelievably polite, loving and caring kids) and is a dedicated wife to Mike. And she’s an awesome gardener! Because of Covid-19 and declining health conditions, their family’s Disney trip set for May was canceled. Andrew had the beautiful idea. Why not bring Disney to them? So, Saturday, April 25th, 2020 was a day for their family. It was a day surrounded by friends, family and love!

Goofy kicked off the surprise parade. Yes, the real goofy!

There were 75 cars decorated in various Disney themes. And some incredible performers! Messages of love and encouragement flowed from every car. Honestly, it was better than being at Disney! The magic and dreams of Disney was in State College! There was a blanket of love in Penn Hills, specifically covering the Ebert-Tyworth family. A family that I’m beyond blessed to have been able to call neighbors for the majority of my life.

A tough warrior to say the least! Lori is fighting with grace and undeniable strength. She is fierce and her positivity transcends the walls of their house. Her happy spirit is captivating.

Lori, I pray that you keep dreaming. That the magic of Disney and the love of God, your friends and family never leave your heart. Above all, I want you to know that you are a warrior with an army of fighters behind you. As they say in the movie Toy Story, “You’ve got a friend in me.” However, it’s not just me. It is everyone who knows you. All the lives you’ve touched. We are fighting with you Lori and the entire Ebert-Tyworth family. We love you!
