A Courageous Family

January 3, 2021

Courageous. Strong. Really any synonyms for those two words could be used to describe Jessica. Her beautiful son’s name is Asaiah, which in Hebrew means, “The Lord hath made.” And indeed, the Lord made Asaiah an angel on earth. We connected on the level of infertility. Jessica shared that Asaiah was conceived by Invitro Fertilization (IVF). When she arrived at the studio, we introduced ourselves. And began talking for two hours straight. I’m always thankful for the conversations that my sessions produce. But after spending time with Jessica, I learned that courageous and brave are to words that just touch the surface to how amazing she truly is.

She arrived at the studio alone.

We began swapping infertility stories. But her story is one like I’ve never heard. Jessica was diagnosed with an extensive heart disease at a young age. And received a heart transplant when she was 14. At that point in her life, and many times thereafter, she was told that she would likely never be able to get pregnant or maintain a pregnancy. But she wanted to be a mom, so she never gave up hope. Jessica is single. And like everyone, is getting older. But the dream of being a mom was stronger than ever. So Jessica received an egg and sperm donor, and went through IVF on her own.

Fast forward to today. Jessica delivered a beautiful and healthy baby boy. She is a single mom and crushing it! Her confidence and excitement echo in her voice. And it is inspiring. She has embryos left, and plans to give her son a biological sibling in the future. She shared her story with such joy. And her love for Asaiah is untouchable. After hearing her story, I couldn’t help but cry when I looked at Asaiah. He is truly an angel. Hand picked by God just for Jessica. Looking at his face was like getting a little glimpse of Heaven. So beautiful and bright.

Jessica, I admire you more than you can imagine. Your courage is unparalleled. Thank you for sharing your story with me and allowing me to share it with others. Asaiah is unbelievable, and I’m so blessed to have met you and shared such great conversation. I wish you both a lifetime of love and adventure, and I hope to see you again!
